" February 2010 claire says: A really lovely restaurant.Gorgeous food, freindly prompt service and cosy romantic decor
A fantastic turkish restaurant. The food is amazing and I've eaten in a lot of turkish restaurants in London. You can also order a takeaway from there if you can't get a babysitter. "

"Of all the varied places to eat along Charminster Road, Baraca is definitely my favourite. Every time I visit, the food is absolutely delicious and great value for money. Breakfasts, salads, Mediterranean dishes, burgers, sandwiches, Turkish toast and fab desserts. Great for vegetarians (the vegetable moussaka is amazing) and friendly service. Plenty of locals descend on this place at all times of day, and I can totally see why. Recommended! "

"A delectable meal?"

"My evening at Baraca was fantastic. I went with three friends of mine We had a delectable meal, between the four of us, sharing plates of freshly made sultan mezes and sultan main courses and tasty desserts. The tasty food was accompanied by great service. Great food and good company can make any place an enjoyable experience, but this restaurant is notably top-notch in my opinion. I have to mention too that I received 30 percent off our total bill because I booked online. So, a big meal, a lot of fun, and a nice efes beer, enough to keep me going back?"

"Fabulous Christmas dinner, a superb restaurant."

"We went Baraca recently at the recommendation of a friend. We are so glad we did. Fantastic, I have been to some of the best restaurants in Bournemouth and this one is right up there, top service from all staff. The food was magnificent; we had an excellent meal on a busy night and were treated like VIP's by the owner. It's not luxurious but it is friendly, cosy and great value for money. You'll feel like one of the family after just one visit Well, we only sampled the Christmas menu that night, but everything we tasted was absolutely mouth-watering - pastry filled with feta cheese, chicken with coriander...Friendly service, nice atmosphere and amazing food, wonderful restaurant. Must visit"

"Baraca Restaurant 129 Charminster Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8UH Incik is amazing - 27 Dec 2009

Even though we live in Southampton, we drive to Bournemouth to have dinner at Baraca. We have been going to Baraca for Incik since 2004 and Turkish mezes are amazing. The food is consistently good and fresh. My favourite meze on the menu is the imam bayildi, all the dips are fabulous, but this is my personal favourite, and the chicken in garlic-milk sauce. The staff are so friendly and warm, and are very accommodating and chatty with my kids, who love going there. For four of us to eat there £9.50 each plus drinks. It’s all good."

"I frequently visit the Baraca as the food is excellent as is the atmosphere, linked with the reasonable pricing. Baraca is an excellent place for all occasions!!Tasty mezes, the best chilli sauce and “chocolate supangile”! There is something on the menu for every taste. I really like the incik and the sultan iskender. I have NEVER been disappointed. The owner treats you like family and uses only the freshest ingredients. The food is authentic, the portions very generous and easily the best value for money in Bournemouth. This is the restaurant my family always comes back to. Whether you go for lunch or dinner, Baraca is top notch for fresh food and friendly service. This restaurant deserves all the praise and is up there with the best restaurants in Bournemouth. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Baraca to all "

"Exceptional food whatever you choose there is no bad choice"

Well what we can say about Baraca, Let’s start with WOW...? We have been going to the Baraca restaurant now for over 6 years, ever since moving to Bournemouth and being introduced to Baraca Me and my wife became very good friends with the restaurant owner Mr Hikmet Kurt and his wife and staff. We over the years have celebrated a lot of special events there, like the day after wedding they opened up privately for us and our families for a special wedding meal, their service and food was second to none the selection of food on offer catered for all. they opened their sister restaurant in Old Christchurch road called Amaretto which we attended as VIP guests, the same amount of work and proud ownership has gone into that restaurant as it has in Baraca. The chefs are all trained to the highest standards in Mediterranean Cooking and the ingredients used in the dishes sets your taste bud racing, the relaxed atmosphere and friendly nature of the staff is very welcoming to all. Finally I must say with confidence that the Baraca is probably the BEST restaurant in Bournemouth and should be visited by everybody that gets the chance. Exceptional food whatever you choose there is no bad choice!
Almost forgot to mention that Baraca is the winner of Bournemouth Bloom this year!!!Congratulations Hikmet

"For a welcoming atmosphere and a huge range of delicious Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food, this Turkish restaurant is hard to beat

The Venue
You’ll notice Baraca from the beautiful hanging baskets that adorn the front of the building, separating it from the loud colours and lights of other bars and restaurants in the street. Like the outside, the internal decor is understated, with wooden tables and chairs and a few old-looking sofas at the front.

The restaurant does look a little dark and basic, but too much glamour would ruin the traditional atmosphere. Lamps and other decorative knick-knacks hang from the ceiling and walls, giving a unique and authentic touch.

The People
Waiting staff are friendly and polite, and are happy to explain the ingredients of the more exotic dishes. Service is quick, but you won’t feel rushed even though the place is usually very busy.
Baraca is very popular, and is usually filled with both Brits and foreigners. You’ll see many families, groups and couples dining here.

The Food
The menu has possibly the largest selection of starters you’ll ever see, as well as a wide and varied range of main courses. If you find it hard to choose one of the many delicious starters, the Meze Baraca is worth a try and samples several of their best starters such as falafel, humus and borek (fried pastry filled with feta cheese). It’s £5.95 for one or £9.95 for two but the portions are generous so you could easily share.
The main courses range from £6.95 - £14.95, and include skilfully cooked dishes such as marinated chicken breast, kulbasti (chargrilled fillet of lamb), and Mediterranean steak (with mozzarella cheese and basil pesto). There’s also a wide range of vegetarian dishes such as vegetarian iskender (seasonal vegetables with cubes of pitta bread in a yoghurt sauce).
If you can manage dessert, they start at £2.75, and include apple crumble and ice creams as well as Turkish desserts such as kayisi krema (dried apricots stuffed with cream).

The Drink
There’s a good range of spirits, aperitifs and liqueurs from £1.70. Bottles of beer include Stella and Efes for £2.30, and pints are around £2.60. Wine is reasonably priced at £9.95 for the house bottle or £2.30 a glass.
Hot drinks include tea and coffee as well as traditional Turkish drinks such as laz kahvesi (hot milk with Turkish coffee) for £1.70 and kocakari cayi (cinnamon, cloves and aniseed) for £2.50.

The Last Word
The basic decor might be a little off-putting at first, but if you give Baraca a try you’ll find that the menu has something to suit most tastes. The thoughtful preparation of the delicious dishes is bound to impress even the most sceptical of palates.

"Very good service, varied choice of meals and nice house wine. If you're looking for a good meal in Charminster this is the place. Bread and olives with oil and balsamic are served complimentary which is a nice touch and the humus and spicy sausage (sucuk) starter is a firm favourite to start. For main course, I highly recommend the spicy lamb fillet, served with rice and vegetables (kulbasti), especially when they bring an accompanying chilli sauce. Although the menu sounds hot and spicy I'm not a huge chilli fan but the spice is used so cleverly that it doesn't take over your whole plate. All in all good value, nice atmosphere and excellent food."

"One of my faves for great food and great atmosphere"

I can't believe there are no reviews for this...hmm.. maybe someone has spelt the name wrong maybe? Anyway, I use to live just by this place when I was at uni and me and my friends would always book it for birthdays and I have also been there with my parents for lunch many times. The food is superb, cannot recommend the Kofte enough - I prefer the one serverd with bread, a rish tomatoe sauce and yoghurt the most to one with rice, but both are lovely. Have never had a bad meal there. LOamb is also amazing. Staff are very friendly, very reasonable prices, great atmosphere. In daytime atmosphere changes to chilled relexed almost cafe like, but the lunch menu is also superb and great value - again, kofte is my choice, in a pitta, or their superb burgers with feta. It's in my top 5 in whole of bournemouth - easily!
